Over the years that Safe Shops has been offering trainings, certain shops have risen to the top of environmental leadership and inquired about the availability of safer alternatives to toxic chemicals. Others have sought to buy newer equipment that focuses on worker safety and pollution prevention.
It is important that the Safe Shops Project offers a variety of ways that shops can improve neighborhood conditions and worker health. In order to provide useful materials, Safe Shops staff had to do homework and rely on some wonderful and already existing educational tools.
Many times staff has supplied shop owners and workers with fact sheets from the EPA Design For Environment Program or watched videos with them on a lap top from the California Department of Toxics Substances Control. There are many excellent existing resources that are outlined in the table below.
