Boston Moves for Health is a city-wide initiative aimed to address obesity in Boston by building on past successes and creating conditions that make it easier for everyone in Boston to be healthier. This campaign to get Boston to move and eat healthier is a multi-pronged approach that seeks to:
- Increase opportunities for adults to be more physically active, eat healthy foods, and reduce their consumption of sugary drinks
- Increase opportunities for children and youth in childcare settings, schools, and out-of-school time programs to be physically active and to be offered water with meals and snacks
- Increase the number of workplaces that promote and provide healthy beverages and offer employees opportunities to attain/maintain a healthy weight
- Increase the number of patients of Boston’s healthcare institutions and neighborhood residents participating in programs that promote healthy eating and/or active living
Boston Moves for Health will not only engage diverse residents of Boston of all ages and capacities, but seeks to enlist the support of institutions and organizations across sectors – hospitals, faith-based and other community based organizations, city/government – in making sure that all environments where people live, work and play in Boston are healthier (or support healthy choices) in order to collaboratively impact obesity rates in the City of Boston.
