The Boston Public Health Commission, Safe Shops Program is making funding available to assist Boston nail salons in improving their ventilation systems to come into compliance with the Boston Public Health Commission Nail Salon Regulations.  Up to $8,000 per salon (up to $1,000 design assistance and/or $2,000 to $7,000 construction assistance) is available on a competitive basis.  To be eligible, a salon must currently be in operation and permitted by the BPHC and in current good standing with all regulatory agencies.  Funds will be disbursed to selected salons once ventilation plan development is completed (design assistance) and/or construction work on the compliant ventilation system is significantly progressed.  Applications are due on or before Friday, December 23, 2016.

Description: The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) announces the upcoming release of a RFP to conduct data collection for the 2017 Boston Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BBRFSS). The BPHC is seeking a vendor to conduct on-going monthly BBRFSS data collection among Boston residents for the 2017 calendar year beginning in January 2017. The survey instrument will be provided by BPHC Research & Evaluation Office. BPHC requires data collection to follow a random-digit-dial method utilizing a computer-assisted telephone interview system. All Boston households with landline telephones are to be included in order to achieve a representative sample of non-institutionalized adults ages 18 and older in Boston who reside in private domiciles. In addition interviews among adult Boston residents who primarily use cellular telephones will be included.

Description:  
The Boston Public Health Commission, Executive Office is seeking a consultant to review the different data systems that currently capture indicators or measures of suicide (e.g., suicidal ideation, psychiatric distress, suicide attempts, depression, etc.) These include the annual Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS), Boston EMS Safety-Pad, syndromic surveillance systems, and other potential sources of information such as trauma programs or school based health center data. The goal of the review would be to position the BPHC to better analyze suicide-related data across multiple public health programs and domains such as race/ethnicity, education, gender, age, and neighborhood in order to tailor programs and interventions to reduce the likelihood of suicide.

Description:                       
The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), Bureau of Infectious Disease, HIV/AIDS Services Division seeks additional proposals to provide Medical Case Management, Psychosocial Support, and Medical Transportation services that target people living with HIV (PLWH) within the Boston Eligible Metropolitan Area (EMA). The goals of these services are to (1) support individuals living with HIV in their efforts to enter into and remain in primary health care and health-related support services and (2) help improve the clinical health outcomes and quality of life of PLWH.

This RFP process is open to all applicants within the Massachusetts counties of the Boston EMA.  The Massachusetts portion consists of Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Plymouth and Worcester Counties in Massachusetts.  To be eligible to receive Ryan White Part A funds, an applicant must be a certified Non-profit 501 (c) (3), or a public entity, be located within the ten counties of the Boston EMA, and be proposing to provide services to people living with HIV in the EMA. Additional eligibility criteria for this RFP include: 1) must propose to serve greater than 50% Hispanic/Latino clients, 2) be eligible to receive Minority AIDS Initiative funding, as outlined in the RFP.

The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is pleased to announce this Request for Proposals (RFP) for Media Production under the Start Strong Building Healthy Teen Relationships Initiative and Casa Myrna Vasquez House. The Boston Public Health Commission will fund a production company, agency or consultant to help us create video content, and a micro website to hold the videos. This is an effort to promote healthy relationships in Boston communities as part of a city-wide social marketing campaign.

Eligible Organizations

The purpose of this Request for Proposals is to identify companies that can design and produce media to support a media campaign.  Specifically, the Boston Public Health Commission is looking to identify organizations that are:

  1. Experienced at developing and implementing media for youth.
  2. Experienced at developing videos, PSA's, short films
  3. Experience at designing and building web experiences and websites
  4. Experience with developing integrated media campaigns

The funded company will be an important partner in the Boston Public Health Commission's Start Strong Building Healthy Relationship Initiative that aims to prevent children's exposure to violence and promote healthy teen relationships in Boston.

Funding Amount: up to $68,000 per year.

Boston Emergency Medical Services recognizes that EMTs and Paramedics are faced with certain events that have the potential to create a significant stress reaction. With this in mind, BEMS has created a Peer Support Program with a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) component to provide peer-driven, clinically-guided assistance to its employees. Team members are EMT’s and Paramedics with specialized training in various aspects of CISM, based on the guidelines set forth by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Operational Manual (Mitchell & Everely).
