INSPECTIONS

To ensure the safety of your home, workplace and environment, the Boston Public Health Commission and its partner organizations conduct inspections to protect residents and  employees from dangerous living or working conditions. Learn more about our programs below.

The Environmental Health Office responds to requests from the public for inspections related to a broad range of potential environmental health hazards.  The office addressees hazards in private residences, public buildings, workplaces, and outdoor spaces. To report a health hazard or request an inspection, contact the Environmental Health Office at 617-534-5965.
Breathe Easy at Home is a referral system allowing doctors, nurses, or other health professionals to refer their patients with asthma who live in Boston for a home inspection, conducted by the Boston Inspectional Services Department (ISD). ISD inspectors enforce the state sanitary code for housing in Boston. The ISD inspectors are trained to identify asthma triggers that are covered by the state sanitary code. Through Breathe Easy at Home, ISD inspectors work with the property owners to eliminate poor housing conditions
