HEALTHY HOMES AND ENVIRONMENT

Healthy Homes in Boston

Our health and wellbeing are affected in large part by where we live, work, and play – the air we breathe, our homes, our occupations, our streets and green spaces, and more. The Division of Environmental and Occupational Health and the Division of Healthy Homes & Community Supports work to promote the health of Bostonians by protecting them from potential environmental hazards in homes, businesses, and public spaces. Our staff work closely with residents and community partners to create healthier environments for everyone.

For example, our lead prevention and intervention initiatives have helped to dramatically reduce the number of young children with elevated blood lead levels to less than one percent in Boston. We work closely with the Boston Housing Authority, Boston Parks & Recreation Department, and a variety of other partners to create smoke-free and pest-free environments. We also support small businesses by consulting with local auto body and repair shops, nail salons, and hair salons to promote safer, healthier environments for both employees and customers.
