BE SUGAR SMART

Not all sugar is created equal!

Fruit, for example, is an important part of a balanced diet, yet is high in sugar. Fruit in sugar occurs naturally, along with valuable nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber.  Sugary beverages, on the other hand, have sugar that is added during processing that contains almost no nutrients. When drinking these beverages, consumers take in huge amounts of extra calories without any of the nutrients that keep our bodies healthy. Even scarier, liquid calories do not satisfy hunger the way calories from eating solid, healthy food does. As a result, it is easier to overeat and still be hungry.  Over time, this cycle can to lead to weight gain.
