All fitness activities at the South End Fitness Center have been suspended for the foreseeable future. Due to an unexpected closure of the Long Island Bridge, a temporary shelter has been established at the South End Fitness Center (SEFC) to accommodate the Boston Public Health Commission’s Long Island program guests. At this time, BPHC has not determined an expected timeframe for the closure but further information will be posted when it becomes available.

SEFC members have been contacted directly regarding their membership. Any members with questions may contact the SEFC at (617) 534-5822. To download a reimbursement form, please click here.

Community members, neighbors and businesses in the Northampton Street community that have questions can call 617-534-2606 for information.

South End Fitness Center (SEFC) is a fitness and wellness facility with a uniqueness that sets us apart from other health and fitness centers.  We are one of a variety of preventative health services provided by the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), whose mission we have adopted as our own "to protect, preserve, and promote health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those most vulnerable." We are part of the Chronic Disease Prevention and Control division of the Community Initiatives Bureau. Special partnerships with Boston Medical Center, other non-profit organizations, community groups, and Boston residents makes SEFC a great community resource that reaches out to all individuals regardless of their level of income, education, or experience in fitness and exercise.  Our dedication and commitment to a "harassment-free environment" ensures that a diverse group of members can enjoy our wellness facility in complete comfort as they strive to reach their fitness goals.

All memberships to SEFC include use of our basketball court, abundant strength training equipment, cardiovascular equipment, 25-yard swimming pool, exercise studio, group fitness classes (at a nominal fee), locker rooms, and showers. Members receive a free one hour fitness orientation with our own Fitness Specialist at no extra cost to evaluate fitness goals and discuss proper technique and equipment usage on a personalized fitness program. Discounts on yearly memberships may apply to certain individuals. Please remember to check with our front desk for swimming pool and basketball court availability as times may vary.
