Our in-school curriculum introduces public health concepts and health careers to middle school students at our Boston Public (middle) Partner schools:
. We also introduce BAHEC to our middle school students and recruit rising 9
graders into our summer enrichment program.
While the 2017-2018 Academic Year has ended, it was a great success full of learning moments and exposure to health careers for our students. Courses offered this year include Nursing, Medical Exposure Bootcamp, Youth Advisory Board, Intro to Pharmacy, Global Health, Intro to Medicine, Health Careers 101, EMT, Intro to Dentistry, and Physical Therapy.
BAHEC’s summer enrichment program is a six-week program that consists of various math and science courses, public health courses as well as electives and field trips. BAHEC’s SEP 2018 applications are now closed and decisions have been sent out to students who have applied.
Youth Advisory Board
The Youth Advisory Board is a leadership development program for BAHEC's most experienced students. Members of the YAB serve as ambassadors of BAHEC, advocates for public health, and advisors for the Boston Public Health Commission.
YAB consists of 15 students who are dedicated to being the ambassadors of BAHEC. Their focus this year is on continuing last year’s mental health campaign and identifying mental health awareness within their own communities as well as the community of Boston Public Schools.
YAB members disseminated a survey to gauge the awareness of mental health in their schools, created an online storytelling series, documented on their Instagram and planned a mental health summit event at one of their partner schools.
