COMMUNICABLE DISEASE REPORTING
* Healthcare providers in Boston are required to report all suspected or diagnosed communicable disease cases to the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC).

CLINICAL LABORATORY REPORTING
* All clinical laboratories in the city of Boston are required to report specimens that have tested positive for certain communicable diseases to the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC).

ANIMAL BITE REPORTING
* Healthcare providers in Boston are required to report  animal bites to the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC).

BIOLOGIC RESEARCH LABORATORY REPORTING
City of Boston regulations require certain research laboratories to report illness, exposure, or absenteeism among staff members.  To report illness, significant exposure, or absenteeism meeting specified criteria among persons working with covered agents

Note: This reporting requirement applies only to infectious disease research labs that work with specified high risk agents.

HIV/AIDS, STD, and TB REPORTING
Cases of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and tuberculosis (disease or latent infection) are reportable directly to Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH).

To report:

  • HIV infection or AIDS, call (617) 983-6583.  Click here for more information about HIV/AIDS reporting guidelines.
  • Sexually transmitted infections, call (617) 983-6940.
  • Tuberculosis
    • Suspect or confirmed case: call (617) 983-6801 or (888) MASSMTB (24 hour reporting).
    • Latent tuberculosis infection: call (617) 983-6801or fax form to (617) 983-6220.
