Community-based Prevention for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis (B & C) & STIs
Staff from the Education & Outreach Office provides education regarding infectious diseases to reduce risk of illness and promote health of residents in Boston.  Education awareness initiatives include various social marketing campaigns, development of educational materials, and direct training to groups including healthcare facilities, substance abuse programs, day care facilities, local businesses, and other government agencies. Staff also offers education to patients at the Commission’s Tuberculosis Clinic located at Boston Medical Center, and provide directly observed therapy to persons infected with tuberculosis in the city of Boston.

In addition, the Education & Outreach Office provides funding and technical assistance to community-based providers in the City of Boston who deliver HIV/AIDS prevention and education through comprehensive, evidence-based HIV/AIDS interventions designed to raise community awareness and lower the infection rates. Funding is targeted to culturally and linguistically competent HIV service providers.

The following initiatives and outreach activities are ongoing:

  • Program and curriculum development
  • Workshop and conference series about HIV and its impact on specific populations
  • Continued technical assistance to community-based organizations
  • Community resource development and coalition building
  • Social marketing campaigns targeting specific priority populations
  • HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis (B&C) and Sexually Transmitted Infection related Satellite Broadcasts
