| What is the Barbershop Men's Health Initiative? |
Men are 24 percent less likely than women to have visited a doctor within the past year and are more likely to be hospitalized for preventable conditions like diabetes complications (Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality). The Barbershop Men's Health Initiative connects barbers and their clients with health information and services to address men's health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, oral health, healthy eating and prostate cancer. Hosting a Barbershop Health Day is a great opportunity for barbershop owners to share information about health programs and services offered by the Boston Public Health Commission with their clients and employees.

Hosting a Barbershop Health Day is easy! BPHC Staff will come to your shop and set-up an information table to provide your customers and employees with free health resources and education. We can also help your customers and employees get connected with health services in Boston through programs like the Mayor's Health Line or the Office of Oral Health, and we can help answer your health-related questions. Goldman School of Dental Medicine will be discussing obesity and oral health - come learn how to measure your BMI and receive other great health information.
