Alternatives to Television

Suggested activities for children ages 1-3:

1.     Read to them or look at picture books

2.     Sing

3.     Play dress-up

4.     Blocks

5.     Climb and dig outside

Suggested activities for children ages 4-6:

1.     Make special play spaces (blanket over two chairs, large box, etc)

2.     Build with blocks, train sets, Legos

3.     Dress up

4.     Puzzles

5.     Listen to music

6.     Water (large bowl of water and several plastic cups)

7.     Nursery rhyme games like “Duck, Duck, Goose!” and “Ring around the Rosy”

Suggested activities for children ages 6-12:

1.     Build with wood

2.     Put on a play

3.     Create scrapbooks or photo albums

4.     Read

5.     Write stories

6.     Sing, listen to music, practice an instrument

7.     Write to pen pals

8.     Play board games

9.     Ride bikes, skateboard, roller blade

10.  Grow a window box/indoor garden

11.  Explore outdoors. Identify birds, bugs, trees, flowers, etc.
