Get Healthy Now!

Life is busy these days. Work, family, school and community activities seem to leave little time for getting exercise or preparing healthy meals. But we know physical activity and healthier eating help to prevent many illnesses.

What’s the solution? Make small changes. Fit them into your routine. Make them work for you. The links on this page are full of suggestions for small changes that can make a big difference.

If you have any questions, or would like more information about any of our programs, please call the Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Division  at 617-534-5690. For tips on how making small changes can add up to better health, go to small steps.

Eat your fruits and veggies. Eat healthy.
Check out the new food pyramid, how to eat more fruits and vegetables, get started on a healthy eating plan, and find delicious recipes.

“Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” --Edward Stanley

Read the label. Drink healthy.

Learn how much sugar is actually in your drinks, what studies are saying about children and soda, and what you could be drinking instead.

“Actually, I think all addiction starts with soda. Every junkie did soda first. But no one counts that. Maybe they should. The soda connection is clear. Why isn't a presidential commission looking into this?” -- Chris Rock

Walk. See where it takes you.

Find out why walking is so good for you. Join a walk group and get a free pedometer.

“A mile walk with a friend is only a hundred steps.” –Russian Proverb

Turn off the TV!
Learn how much TV America actually watches, why TV is harmful to your health, and what you can do about it.

“If you came home and you found a strange man…teaching your kids to punch each other, or trying to sell them all kinds of products, you’d kick him right out of the house, but here you are; you come in and the TV is on, and you don’t think twice about it.” -Jerome Singer

And don't forget that one of the most important ways to stay healthy is to avoid tobacco.
