ABOUT THE CANCER PROGRAM


The Cancer Prevention and Control Program promotes early detection and prevention as the leading approaches to reducing cancer deaths in the City of Boston.

The Pink & Black Campaign

In October 2005, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Commission launched a public education campaign to raise awareness of the disparities in breast cancer survival faced by Black women in Boston. Today, the Pink and Black Ambassadors have become local spokeswomen for the issue.The Commission continues to work to eliminate racial health disparities on the community, system, and policy level.

Cancer Health Ride Program

 

Developed as a component of the initial Boston Crusade Against Cancer, the Cancer Ride Program helps reduce transportation barriers faced by cancer survivors. Since the start of the Health Rides program in June 1999, more than 21,000 free taxi coupons have been provided to cancer patients at participating hospitals. more>>

 

 

Health Education & Campaigns
The Commission is very active in promoting breast cancer awareness and sincerely involved in risk reduction, especially among African Americans and Latinas. We conduct breast health workshops in churches, schools, shelters, and other community settings.  more>>
