ABOUT COMMUNITY INITIATIVES BUREAU |
|
The Community Initiatives Bureau (CIB) is one of six bureaus within the Boston Public Health Commission. The Community Initiatives Bureau works with community residents and organizations, health care institutions, other city agencies, elected officials and policymakers to identify and address health concerns, advocate for healthy communities, educate and empower the community to effect environmental change and to adopt healthy social norms and practices.

The Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Division takes a lead role in BPHC’s initiatives to reduce the overall burden of chronic disease and address disparities in outcomes, treatment, and related services. We focus on improving the public health system across the continuum of preventing; screening and early detection; and controlling and treating chronic disease. more>>

The Civic Engagement and Advocacy Division has as its goal the promotion of health, equity and the reduction of mortality and morbidity related to preventable diseases and conditions. Resources are dedicated toward providing technical assistance, training, and support for local community coalitions and individual; policy development; community education; and outreach programs. more>>

The Environmental Health Division protects the health of Bostonians and visitors to the city through environmental monitoring and prevention activities, inspections, and emergency response to environmental hazards, provides outreach and education, and enforcement of regulatory laws. more>>

The Healthy Homes and Community Supports Division is committed to protecting the health and well-being of Boston individuals and families, across the lifespan, in homes and communities. Division programs include: Asthma Prevention and Control, Healthy Homes, Injury Prevention, and Tobacco Prevention and Control. more>>

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) CPPW program has awarded The Boston Public Health Commission $12.5 million over two years through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the “economic stimulus” bill) to implement aggressive, high-impact interventions addressing nutrition, physical activity and tobacco use. These initiatives will lead to policy, systems, and environmental changes that will reduce obesity and tobacco use and exposure in the City of Boston. more>> |
