Mission Statement
The mission of the Child, Adolescent and Family Health Bureau is to address the public health needs of children, youth and families whose health is most affected by social inequities. We strive to reflect six principles in our approach to meet the health needs of groups that we serve through our programs and policy efforts. Our approach:
- Is grounded in the science of human development;
- Recognizes the critical impact of social factors and conditions on health;
- Recognizes the cumulative impact of life experience on the health of individuals, families and communities;
- Seeks to counter systems of oppression, including racism and its effects, as a means to promote health equity;
- Is inclusive and respectful, drawing on the strengths and assets of individuals and communities;
- Aims for systemic, as well as individual, solutions to health problems.
