 RESOURCES AND REFERRALS CENTER


The Resources and Referral Center (also known as Central Intake and "Room 5") is a walk-in substance abuse triage and assessment service that provides referrals to the Bureau’s outpatient counseling, acupuncture, and opioid treatment services. The Center also makes referrals for detoxification and residential programs to other agencies in Boston.

Services Provided

  • Walk-in triage service for individuals seeking substance abuse treatment, including assessment for the appropriate level of care and referrals to treatment.
  • Intakes and referrals to the Bureau’s Opioid Addiction Services, including Methadone Treatment.
  • Assistance with eligibility requirements for treatment service admissions, including medical and psychiatric clearance.
  • Transportation to substance abuse treatment programs, including detox.
  • Referrals to medical and psychiatric care at Boston Medical Center when necessary.
  • Distribution of resources about substance abuse treatment for individuals and families.
  • Training and education to other agencies regarding referrals and substance abuse systems information for specific populations.

Population Served

The program serves all adult residents of Boston; however, many of our clients are uninsured, underinsured, homeless, or suffering from co-occurring medical or psychiatric illness.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 18 years of age
  • Resident of Boston or surrounding neighborhoods
