High Rise Buildings

Both manmade disasters, such as a terrorist attack, and natural disaster, such as an earthquake, should be considered when developing an emergency response plan for safely evacuating a high-rise building. The feeling of being “trapped” in a high-rise building when any type of disaster occurs can produce a high level of anxiety among individuals. To minimize that anxiety, ensure that employees know what the plan of action should be in the event a disaster occurs while in they are in the building.

There are resources available to assist you in developing your emergency response plan for evacuating a high-rise and other high-risk buildings.

  1. The Office of Homeland Security provides information on how to safely evacuate a high-rise building in the event of an emergency.
  2. OSHA provides a list of actions that employers should take to help ensure employees safe evacuation from a high-rise building in the event of an emergency. For more information please visit the OSHA website.
