Proposed Amendments to Tobacco Control Regulations

The Boston Public Health Commission is accepting written comments on the proposed amendments to Boston's Tobacco Control Regulations. A copy of the proposed amendments may be obtained by clicking here or by calling 617-534-5855. The proposed amendments would remove an exemption for mint and menthol flavored tobacco and nicotine from existing flavored tobacco sales restrictions; increase accountability and youth access restrictions for 21+ adult-only establishments by strengthening front door retailer ID checking requirements and restricting the sale of products that attract young people. You can view a copy of a presentation to the Board of Health on this topic from staff at BPHC here.

A public hearing is scheduled for November 7 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Boston Public Health Commission, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, Hayes Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02118. Written comments may be submitted through November 8, by e-mail to  or by mail to the Boston Public Health Commission, General Counsel's Office, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02118. BPHC proposes to promulgate the amendments pursuant to G.L. c. 111, 31; G.L. c. 111, App. §§ 2-1, 2-3, 2-6(b), 2-6(j), 2-7(a)(1), and 2-7(a)(15).
