Boston has the highest rate of asthma hospitalizations for children under 10 in state of Massachusetts. Dr. Megan Sandel, a Boston Medical Center pediatrician, joins Boston Health Click to discuss the Breathe Easy at Home Asthma Program. Breathe Easy At Home is a web-based referral system, allowing doctors, nurses, or other health professionals to refer their Boston patients with asthma for a home inspection, conducted by the Boston Inspectional Services Department. Breathe Easy at Home inspectors work with the property owners to eliminate poor housing conditions and asthma triggers.

In 2007, Massachusetts became the first state in the nation to require all residents over the age of 18 to have health insurance. With a shortage of primary care providers, the thousands of newly insured Boston residents may be having difficulty finding a doctor on their own.
