Youth Development Network is a comprehensive public health initiative to reach and serve at-risk youth in Boston neighborhoods It builds on and expands existing services for urban youth, and strengthens the coordination of public and private programs to better serve them.  The YDN will: Provide direct counseling, services and referrals to youth at risk; Link youth to health, education, social support and economic opportunities; Facilitate collaboration and coordination among youth serving  agencies; Develop public and private resources for continuous improvement and sustainability
DUTIES:   Conduct outreach activities to reach youth at risk and provide and/or refer youth to services.
In collaboration with a wide range of street workers and youth serving programs, ensure that identified youth receive timely assessment and counseling and appropriate referrals.
Work in collaboration with other programs at BPHC that target adolescents and with the Violence Prevention Program, as well as with the Boston’s Center for Youth and Families to ensure additional referring sources. Establish a network of service providers with identified contact persons in order to reduce access barriers. Provide education and prevention services and activities, and facilitate interventions when appropriate.  Uses independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting the program and staff as it relates to program operations/services and BPHC policy.
Develops, implements and manages projects and/or initiatives related to the program for the provision of services and/or to ensure effective operations and compliance with established standards and/or goals and objectives. Provide crisis coverage.
This position has access to highly confidential information and is responsible for its confidentiality.  Works in a confidential capacity with youth, peers, adults, parents, Community Organizations, Faith Organizations, Police and other law enforcement agencies, BPHC Programs, BCYF Programs, City of Boston agencies, BPHC Management and Executive Office.
Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

This is a new category of public health professional with experience in youth development, counseling, mental health, substance abuse and violence prevention.
BA or Associate Degree required; OR 5 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing may be substituted for undergraduate degree.
Demonstrated experience coordinating and implementing youth programming.
Ability to write clear, concise reports, and to follow and to give written and oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner. Ability to understand, explain, apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures of unit activities. Ability to provide oversight, including planning and assigning work and motivating staff; Ability to establish rapport with others and to maintain harmonious working relationships with others. Advanced experience with and knowledge of local community agencies and health care. Good organizational skills with the ability of developing time lines and meeting deadlines. Demonstrated cultural competence with the diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.  Bilingual and/or bicultural applicants encouraged to apply.
This position requires direct client/patient contact and as a result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties.
