Conducts information briefings for and provides education and referrals to defendants in civil restraining order proceedings to help prevent them from violating a restraining order, resulting in criminal charges. Meets with defendants before restraining order hearing to explain what a restraining order means and what to expect from hearing, to demystify the legal process and reduce unintentional violations of the order. Makes appropriate referrals to human service agencies-shelters, detox, job training programs- in an attempts to stabilize defendants under great stress, so that they will be able to understand & comply with restraining orders. In addition to working with defendants, provides individual and community wide DVP education and outreach to targeted populations. Works one-on-one with defendants to assist them with human service referral needs. Develops strong linkages with local human service providers and agencies. Conducts monthly domestic violence awareness presentations for groups of men from the community. Networks with other outreach workers and street workers to promote increased discussion of intimate partner violence with men with whom they work. Collaborates with and acts as resource to the Criminal Defense Bar and the Probation Dept regarding human services referrals. Participates in other domestic violence educational outreach efforts. Compiles and provides data on service delivery as required by the JOD Evaluation component. Performs other duties as required. This job description is based on the Program Coordinator Series. May be required to perform any and all duties and responsibilities of a Program Coordinator I, as set forth in the BPHC Coordinator Series.
| Minimum Qualifications | Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Policy Administration, or a related discipline, such as sociology, organizational psychology, public health nursing, or health communications required; OR BA/BS and 2 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing; OR 5 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing may be substituted for undergraduate degree. Advanced knowledge of the human service resources in the Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury communities. Experience working with coalitions and groups, especially those serving men, preferred. Must possess strong communication, interpersonal organizational and time management skills. Leadership capabilities and demonstrated successful experience working with community residents, planning groups, city and state agencies and people of diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Demonstrated experience coordinating and implementing complex projects. Demonstrated experience collaborating with providers serving a variety of populations, including gay men, communities of color, substance abuse populations, women and youth. Demonstrated ability to establish effective communications and working relationships with community providers. Bilingual and/or bicultural preferred. This position requires direct client/patient contact and as a result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties. A Criminal Offenders Records Information request must be completed for this position. However, a record is not an automatic bar to employment but is reviewed in relation to the job applied for. Boston residency required or willingness to relocate.
