More than half of all Boston residents are people of color. As a group Black Bostonians experience worse health than all other residents. Health is more than health care and personal behavior.
Our health is also a reflection of where we live, work, and play.
Coalition members engaged in projects that have enabled them to speak out about factors and conditions in their neighborhoods that either promote or worsen health outcomes in their communities. The Healthy Communities Photo project led 8 participants through trainings and meetings that allowed them to capture social injustices through photography in their communities. These same participants also created digital stories of their experience in this project and information about the social conditions they choose to focus on that they believe were drivers of health in the community.
