BOSTON - In an effort to reduce exposure to the harmful effects of tobacco, the Boston Public Health Commission board Thursday gave preliminary approval to banning the sale of tobacco products at pharmacies and drug stores and on college and university campuses. It also voted to expand workplace smoking restrictions to include adjacent areas such as patios and loading docks, and prohibit smoking in hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts in Boston.
The changes reflect the board’s continuing commitment to protecting the health and well-being of Boston residents.
The board is accepting written comments on its proposed regulations for the next 60 days. The comments should be sent to: Boston Public Health Commission, Board Office, Attention: Julie Webster, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02118 or emailed to boardofhealth@bphc.org, on or before Nov. 3.
A public hearing on the proposed regulations will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the Carter Auditorium at the Northampton Square complex, 35 Northampton Street, Boston. The public is invited to attend and provide testimony.
